Navy is the New Black

Navy dress on the lock

A fashion classic with a new shade.

Normally when getting ready for a holiday party or an event, I typically select a ‘little black dress’ for the occasion. However, lately I’ve been gravitating toward navy blue instead. Over the past year or so, I have slowly been adding this color into my collection little by little. Navy pairs so well with gold accessories and pops of red which makes it a perfect substitute for black this holiday season.

It started a few years ago when I was a bridesmaid in my younger sister’s wedding. She chose this dress from an Etsy shop for us to wear. (Doesn’t she have great taste?) The beauty of this navy dress is that it’s super cute and super affordable especially for a custom made dress. My favorite part of this dress is the lace detail at the top which carries over to the back of the dress. Throw on a nude pair of heels, statement earrings, grab a coordinating clutch and you are all set for the next party.

If navy isn’t your color of choice, this dress can also be made in a variety of other colors like gray, jade, champagne, and plum. You will probably catch me wearing this ‘little navy dress’ at the next holiday event.

Clutch: Purchased at a church flea market sale this past summer for $1.

Earrings: Charming Charlie. I couldn’t find any matching mine, but there are sort-of similar ones here and here.
