Hardware Statement Necklace

This is a really fun project.  It combines two of my favorite project stores; JoAnn Fabric and Lowes.  I love it when I can take something masculine like corner brackets and turn them into a beautiful DIY statement necklace. Here are the supplies I used:

From JoAnn Fabric: Jeweler’s pliers, chain, small and medium jump rings, and from Lowes, various sizes of corner brackets found in the hardware aisle.

The first thing I did was measure 2 strands of 6 chain links per strand by opening a chain link with the pliers to detach it from the rest of the strand.

Then I took a medium jump ring, split it open wide enough to fit the 6 link chain piece and the largest of corner brackets onto the chain. I used the jeweler’s pliers to close the jump ring.

Then I repeated that process to connect the other two corner brackets in a line.  When I got the desired “look” I was going for with the corner brackets, I measured how long I wanted the necklace to be by holding the chain from the middle of the back of my neck to approximately how long I wanted it.  Make sure when you do this to make 2 equal length chains so you can clasp them together.  Attach one chain to one end of a corner bracket with a jump ring and the other end of the chain to a clasp. Take the other chain equal in length and attach one end to a jump ring for the clasp to hook to and the other end to the other side of the corner bracket.  Then you will have yourself a beautiful hardware statement necklace.

I have enough hardware and chain to make two more.  I’d love to make one for you! I will randomly select two people to win a statement necklace just like the one I made today.  To enter, either comment below on what your go to statement jewelry is or “Like” this post on the StoryStyleVision Facebook page. That is an awesome idea! You’re so creative. I only have one statement necklace right now (I am so in need of some new jewelry!) – but I got it at Francesca’s and I get compliments every time I wear it. I have to hold myself back from wearing it too often! lol
