Garage Sale Treasures: Mounted Candle Holders

Now is the perfect time to find tiny little treasures at garage sales of trinkets people just want to throw out. I really enjoy going to garage sales because I like meeting different kinds of people, and you can get a glimpse into what their life is like just by perusing over their junk.  If you greet the host of the garage sale and you are friendly with the person, you can usually talk them down from their asking price.  I found these ugly candle pedestals at a garage sale recently, but I had the vision of what they could look like on my wall with a fresh coat of paint. The woman who sold me these was asking $4, but I politely asked if she would take $2 and she agreed.

This project literally took me an hour from start to finish. All I needed for this quick DIY project was a tarp to lay out on the side of my garage and the spray paint color of my choice.  It helped that I had all the components on hand, but even so, a quick run to Lowes for spray paint wouldn’t have been a huge detour.

I didn’t do too many coats of spray paint because I like seeing the contrast in the details of the scroll on the pedestal.  They both have mounting hardware (more specifically, a saw tooth hanger) on the back of them already.  I used dry wall anchors to hang them for extra support so when they have candles lit on them on the wall, I don’t risk burning the house down!

This was the easiest project ever.  Keep this in mind as you are driving around this Summer and you see garage sales around your neighborhood.  You just might be able to find some hidden treasure.

What is the best thing you ever found at a garage sale?

xo,
Maggie
