Drugstore Makeup Challenge

challenge

Whenever Brandon and I go on a trip- whether it’s a weekend away or our most recent vacation, he always has to run by the usual checklist to make sure I didn’t forget anything because inevitably I always do. This past trip to the West Coast I was really smart and left my *entire* makeup bag at home. (I was so frustrated with myself, because I had packed it perfectly!) Anyway, after we arrived, we went to the nearest drugstore in pursuit of the basics. After about a half hour of consideration, I finally settled on these 4 basic makeup products to hold me over until I got home. These are the results of my very own true life drugstore makeup challenge.

foundation

Foundation/concealer: L’OREAL true match compact makeup. This is not by any means a full coverage foundation, but it did the trick for the time being.

3441eyeshadow

Eye shadow/eyeliner: REVLON custom eyes. The one side of the brush has a pointed tip which was convenient for sweeping on the dark shadow as a make-shift eyeliner. The other side was a conventional eye shadow applicator wand.

3446mascara

Mascara: L’OREAL Voluminous mascara- an oldie but a goodie. I really like the curved wand!

3449blush

Blush: REVLON’s “Oh Baby! Pink.” This was my most surprising of the four makeup products. I really like the sheen and color the blush has and I have used it almost every day since vacation.

As for lips, that was the only thing I had with me in my purse- a trusty Victoria’s Secret lip gloss.

Leaving my makeup at home taught me a lesson. Since I started using good quality makeup, I would turn my nose up at drugstore products like foundation, eye shadow and blush thinking it wasn’t as good as the products I got at Sephora. But the truth is, drugstore makeup has come a long way, and it served me well on vacation. Another thing about drugstore makeup products is that they come with their own applicators, and they work in a pinch. I didn’t have to bother with buying brushes which was also really convenient and money saving. I learned from this challenge that drugstore makeup isn’t all that bad… but it still doesn’t replace my high end everyday brands.
