Brighter Days Ahead

brighter days ahead

An honest update for where I am in life at the moment.

I’m sure you’ve noticed that my writing this summer has temporarily slowed to a monthly status update. Between the busiest work season I’ve ever had, personal health issues, guests, and rapidly working on finishing the house, my blog has taken a back seat.

2017 has been a very challenging year. For this reason, I’m simply not as motivated write as I have been in the past. I started this blog five years ago as a creative outlet when I was unhappy at my job. This blog was a way for me to share DIY projects, as well as fuel my interest for writing. Then Brandon and I purchased the ultimate DIY project in 2014: Our house. We thought it would take 3-6 months to finish the work we started. (Seriously, what were we thinking?) But as you know, the house spiraled into an all-consuming, seemingly never ending life of round-the-clock construction.

I don’t mean to sound dramatic, but this last year has been really intense. This might come as a surprise since I don’t share this side of my life. I try to maintain a positive environment of inspiration here on my blog. But the reality is, it’s not always easy.

What you don’t read here is the most difficult parts of our project: My frustration with the constant dust we have upstairs because of the construction below us. The immense guilt I feel about working nights and weekends. (I often leave Brandon to work by himself on the latest project because of my irregular schedule.) The occasional (OK frequent) tears. Dinners past 9PM because we were pushing hard to finish something. Saying “no” all the time to social events (and yes, sometimes church on Sunday) because we have to work on the house. To add to the chaos, Brandon is diligently working on earning his Master’s degree while juggling his full time job and the house. (I’m so proud of him!) Needless to say, my anxiety has been through the roof. The last thing I feel motivated to do is keep up with my blog.

What I originally intended for this particular post to be about was this adorable pink shirt I found at Zara earlier this year. These photos were taken in the spring when Pale Dogwood, a lovely dusty shade of pink, was a one of spring 2017’s color trends. I wanted to share the link to this shirt for you. (It’s no longer available, although I did find similar shirts here, here and here.) I planned to talk about how excited I was about warmer weather coming. (Although now we know this summer’s weather was a joke!)

Anyway, this isn’t meant to be a feel sorry for me blog post. Simply put, I just wanted to be honest and open about why I haven’t been posting as much. I appreciate each and every person who reads this blog. I look forward to brighter days ahead as Brandon and I continue to finish up our house. We are so close! At the moment, we are working on the fireplace. I can’t wait to share more updates with you soon.

Oh, and if your curious, I posted a stairs update video on my YouTube channel so you can see our progress here! Make sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel for all the latest videos.
