We Bought a House!

I am so excited to announce today that after weeks of waiting and wondering, I can finally say that Brandon and I are proud first time owners of a new home! We really could not be more excited.

Our house is over 100 years old and sits firmly across from a gorgeous view of the river. We actually were not planning on buying a house this summer, but we stumbled across this property purely by accident earlier in June. Long story short, our offer was accepted and we were finally handed over our keys yesterday.

Before the closing, Brandon and I had a final walk-through of the house with our realtor. As we were about to go to the bank, a car pulled up and two of the four current owners walked over to greet us at the riverfront. What an honor it was to meet them! They shared precious stories with us, memories of their childhood, and wished us well with a beautiful potted plant with a welcome sign above it. The timing could not have been more perfect.

After the closing, we drove to the local deli, ordered sandwiches, drove back to our house and had a private picnic in front of the river toasting to our new future. Later that evening we invited our family and close friends over for an impromptu cookout to show them the house and the property. It meant the world to me that we had our close friends and local family there to celebrate. After lots of food and great conversation, we drove back to our apartment and brought back our guest room mattress and slept on the floor of our dining room. It was the most perfect day.

This post would not be complete without giving a special shout out to my dear friend Melissa who met us at our house after the closing to take these photos. She’s not only been my friend for over 10 years, but shes also been a huge support to us during this whole process. That, and she’s super talented at taking photos.
