“5 Days, 5 Mascaras” Review

I watch a lot of beauty gurus on YouTube and read other fashion/beauty blogs and I am always interested in the types of makeup they recommend, particularly mascara. I am always looking for a great yet affordable mascara, and when someone makes a raving review on the internet, I’m curious to try it out for myself.

I have naturally fine hair, so naturally my eyelashes are fine as well. My lashes always seem to have a problem living up to the promises that mascara brands advertise about their makeup particularly because of the fine texture of my hair. So I took it upon myself to test out some of the hottest mascaras, focusing on volumizing formulas.

^^ Day 1- Revlon’s “Photoready 3D Volume”. (Perfect for everyday wear)

This was my first Revlon mascara- and I was really pleasantly surprised! I really liked how the wand felt like it was wisping across each of my lashes, and it felt like I added a lot more volume. I would definitely repurchase this mascara! I give it 4 out of 5 stars.

CovergirlStars
^^ Day 2- Covergirl’s “Flamed Out”.  (Meh.)

I purchased this mascara because I was intrigued by the wand. The formula was a bit dry for my liking, and by the end of the day it was flaking off which is why I gave it 2 out of 5 stars. It just goes to show you get what you pay for and I would not repurchase this mascara.

L'Oreal Star
^^ Day 3- L’Oreal’s “Voluminous Butterfly”. (My biggest disappointment)

I can’t tell you how many beauty gurus recommended this product and love it! I finally gave it a try, but as you can see it clumped my already too fine lashes into globs on my eyeballs. I was not impressed. I gave it 1 star because it smells pretty.

BenefitStars
^^ Day 4- Benefit’s “They’re Real!” (My personal favorite.)

I know I said I wasn’t impressed with this mascara in the past but I’ve changed my tune! My problem with this is the brush size and how awkward it is to apply with such a short stubby applicator. (Its a sample size) I gave this mascara a second chance because I was doing these reviews, and this mascara ended up giving me more volume and length than any others I’ve tried in this experiment. My only complaint is that it’s tough to wash off, even in the non-waterproof formula. My rating is 4-1/2 out of 5 stars.

MabellineStars
^^ Day 5- Maybelline’s “Mega Plush Volume”. (My most frustrating experience)

I can’t believe I made the biggest mascara rookie mistake with this one- I purchased waterproof mascara and I didn’t realize it until I washed my face that night. Do you know how unbelievably annoying it is to wash off waterproof mascara when you are not expecting it? Aside from that, I liked the end result of this mascara, but the application was also really frustrating.  The wand is not sturdy at all- it actually jiggles as you apply it which I did not like. I don’t foresee myself giving this one a second chance- even in the non-waterproof version! 3 out of 5 stars.

So those are my reviews. Keep in mind, these were my own experiences, but if you have similar eyelashes to me, then hopefully you found this helpful!

Do you have a holy grail mascara that you just can’t live without? Tell me!!
